There is a New Electric Car Company in Town

Faraday Future, or as they would like to be known as “FF,” is a California-based electric vehicle company started in 2014 that is planning on delivering a slightly different kind of electric car. As they like to put it, they are designing and manufacturing “clean, connected, smart mobility for all.” Not only are they planning to incorporate the latest in electric car technology but also advanced internet, automotive, and aerospace technologies and methodologies.

FF is aiming to be the highest energy density and specific energy vehicle on the market. Their batteries will have 98 kW-hr – that’s 15 percent higher specific energy than a Tesla Model S 85 kW-hr pack.

The initial production date for the FF vehicle is sometime in 2017 but other than that there are very few details about this new electric car company. We do know, however, that there are a few former Tesla manufacturing and product executives that are already part of the FF team. This includes Dag Reckhorn, who was formerly Director Manufacturing for the Tesla Model S from December 2009 to June 2013 and Tom Wessner, who was formerly Director of Purchasing at Tesla. Meaning that this may just give them the edge they needed to compete with a company as big as Tesla.

Not much is known about the design of the EV high-tech car but part of their team also includes Richard Kim, former senior automotive designer for the BMW i3 and i8, Silva Hiti, former engineering manager at General Motors for the Chevy Volt and Pontus Fontaeus, former director of interior design at Volvo, among others.

Yet despite all the former Tesla execs behind FF, they made sure to quickly remind everyone that, ““We’re not Tesla. But we’re not Fisker either. We’re not f**king around.”

What do you think, should Elon Musk be getting nervous?
