At the Guerrilla truck this June that Morland Sinway puts on… 1052 West Fulton Market Chicago, morlensinoway.com it did not rain like years past. The crowd was in full force as the trucks snaked the streets of the Fulton Market as far as thee I could see. People walking down the middle of the street, taxies blocking traffic, confused police, and plenty of IPAs!
The premise is for local designers to get some recognition while NEOCON is in town. Local Designers rent a U-Haul and bring it to Fulton Street full of their art, furniture, stuffed animals or what-have-you. So it better be well lit for the crowd made up largely Interior Designers to browse. The problem was there were no more U-Haul trucks to be had so local designers had to resort to the Ryder brand. Not so cool graphically.
We saw flat pack furniture, fine wood work, laser cut paper furniture, a purse line designed specifically for the bicycles called ‘po campo’ (pocampo.com), and twigs in the form of animals.
By the way, have you ever seen a Marching band that covered Radiohead? Yeah, that was there! We even saw a seven wheel bicycle that 3 people pedaled. Now that’s team work! (That is Rob in the hat).
It seemed there was more furniture and less art. I suppose, given NEOCON was in town and the exposure that the Truck Show brings, we expected to see more creativity with respect to sustainability. Maybe next year…
